McDonalds the Crook

This post has nothing to do with the purpose of my blog, but I have this thought so I might as well get it out.

So, I went to McDonald's today and I asked how much the cheese burgers were (they weren't on the drive thru menu) and I was told that they were $1.12 each with tax... so I order 2. I get to the window and the cashier tells me me that m total is $2.25.. I say "don't you mean $2.24? They are $1.12 each right? Where does that other penny come from??" she said that she didn't know. So I'm not one to complain over a penny (a dime maybe) so I paid the the money...BUT it got me thinking....WHAT IF this is McDonalds way of ripping people off!!

hummmm........

According to their website, McDonalds serve 47 million people a day worldwide. If 10% of their customers order 2 cheese burgers a day at 1 penny more than it is supposed to be, then Mcdonalds will make $47,000 a day!!! Thats about $1,410,000 a month, $16,920,000 a year!!! and thats only from 10% of customers...Imagine if they were doing this with all the orders and not just 10%...they would make $169,200,000 a year...WOW! I think I may sue Mc.Donalds for all the times that they may have cheated me and for the mental anguish of just thinking about this.

Appropriately called the "Glam Rock Chandelier" it is made from Japanese glass pearls and Swarovski crystals, and retails at $22.500. Perfume Mania

Ok Ladies...I have been guilty of this myself but sometimes it takes looking at bad design choices of others before you realize your own mistakes. When it comes to perfume, not only do we fall in love with the fragrance but we also fall in love with the bottle. Sometimes, if the price is right, we will buy a bottle of perfume just because the bottle is soooo pretty. So like me, a lot of us have a collection of old dusty bottles sitting on our dressers or bathroom counters that are looking grosser and grosser every day. With that said here are some tips on how to display your bottles and a few ways to re-purpose them.

1. CLEAN YOUR BOTTLES - Clean the outside with hot soapy water or window cleaner until they sparkle. For the inside, if needed, soak the bottle with warm water and vinegar or lemon juice to remove the old perfume smell. If there is gunk on the inside of the bottle that needs to be cleaned out, fill about 3/4 way full with CLR or other lime-eating cleaning solutions and shake well...you may have to add a small metal or glass bead to really get the grime out and continue to shake until it comes clean (rinse inside with rubbing alcohol followed by hot water to remove all traces of cleaning solution- allow to dry).

2. DISPLAY ON A MIRRORED TRAY- Set bottles on a mirrored tray with smaller bottles in front and larger bottles towards the back. Leave at least a half inch between the bottles so that light can reflect up from the mirror onto the bottles. If possible, direct a light onto the mirror to get the maximum amount of sparkle. (Don't over-crowd, it will just look like clutter. Put some bottles away and switch them out every so often)

3. DISPLAY NEATLY ON A WALL SHELF- If you don't have the counter space. (Remember don't over-crowd).

4. USE AS A FLOWER BUD VASE- Clean bottle, fill with water and place single buds or leaf into bottle. These look great on a bedside table, a window sill, or as a part of a centerpiece for an afternoon brunch. They can be used alone or grouped together as seen below.

5. ADD A PUMP- Change the spray nozzle out for a pump and add hand soap or hand lotion. Looks beautiful on the kitchen or bathroom counter.

6. ROOM DIFFUSER- Remove nozzle and add wooden skewers to create a room diffuser

7. ADD HOMEMADE PERFUME OR ROOM FRAGRANCE- clean out old fragrance and use bottle for your own creation, or add a room fragrance and mist around your house, or on upholstered furniture.

There is another idea I have but I want to try it before I post... It will be a part of my Christmas series. If I forget please remind me.

The holiday season is here. Time to get out your highest heels and sparkly dresses. Its a time to give love, give gifts, get gifts and GET Wasted. LOL. This year take a pass on your boring office Christmas party where the most exciting thing that can happen is watching Berry from accounting get loose and serenade every female co-worker while shirtless. And give Ryan Seacrest and his poor Dick Clark impression a rain check this New Years eve. It's time to throw your own super chic holiday party. Here's a few no fail party tips from one of my favorite books "Party Confidential" on how to throw a fab party

Over invite.

No shows and cancellations are bound to happen. Plus people will come late and others will leave early, so when planning your guest list use this rule of thumb: Invite 5 extra people for every 20.

Guest List

Have an interesting mix of people. Everyone wants to see old friends and meet new people, so expand your social circle. Ask your best friends and coworkers to invite friends and acquaintances.

Set a budget

Simply put

Pick a fabulous location.

If you are not having your party at your home, pick a location that people will love, such as an old classic favorite, a hot new bar, or an amazing home that people have been dying to see.

Time it

Give a start and an end time. If you keep the night open ended, people will trickle in all night long. Avoid having a long time frame or you will offset the flow of guest. A four hour party should be enough to give you a nice crowd for at least 3 hours.

Drinks

Don't forget to have plenty of non-alcholic beverages for the designated drivers and moms-to-be. Also, have ample bottles of water.

Greet guest with a cocktail

Set a server tray near enterance. Creat a signature drink for the evening

Go Mini

Forget the buffet. Maximize comfort by passing bite-sized hors d' oeurves.

Salty and Sweet

A party is no place for a diet. Offer a balance of savory treats

Dress Rehearsal

A week before the party do a run-through so you'll have plenty of time to solve any unexpected problems. Do another run-through the day before the party.

Here is a tip from me: Dont forget the MUSIC: Make a great party mix on your iPod with at least 2 hours of music . Make sure you have a variety of tempos and genres so that everyone will hear something that they like. Hook your iPod up to you stereo, put the iPod on shuffle and you have an instant DJ.

GUYS....If you are not living in a college dorm here's is a bit of advice for you... Scarface is dead!!! so PLEASEEEEEE let the Scarface poster die too. If its one thing that makes me want to go running for the hills when I walk into a guys place, it's that dreaded Scarface poster... You will never be Tony Montana, nor will you be part of the Cuban drug cartel, and if you are a part of the Cuban drug cartel then I really need to get out of here ASAP!!!! Here are some other art trends that grown men need to grow out of! :)

Of course Bob Marley was a musical icon with visions of peace and love, but lets face it, you put this poster up because of that huge puff of smoke. If you wanna honor Bob, buy the album!! :)

Mammoth Sofa

This is my favorite chill sofa EVER!!! I promise it is the most comfortable thing I've ever sat on, and it's really cute. It's from Z Gallerie and every time I go into this store I sit on it for at least 10 minutes, like a professional couch potato or something. Next time you go into Z Gallerie try it out and tell me what you think.

Here's a little something for the guys. I know that a lot of you don't care about bedding, linens, and things of that nature but women do! THEREFORE the more we like your bed the more we'll like you...MAYBE :) It's time to give up your hand-me-down college furniture and get rid of that old floral spread that grandma gave you and get into the swing of things. (Sorry Granny!!)

**NOTE**Ok I know that we are in a recession so even if you cant get new furniture, update your space with new bedding. Keep it fresh, keep it clean!!! Your girl will thank you!!!

The Michael Jackson Cake

When I was a little girl my brother and I were huge Michael Jackson fans. On my brother's 4th birthday his only demand was to get a Michael Jackson cake. My grandmother, who is a wonderful cook, made the Michael cake and my little brother was the happiest kid on the planet. To this day he still talks about it. Just 2 weeks ago I overheard him telling someone about his MJ cake and describing it to them...the problem is, I don't think his description of it was quite accurate. He remembers it looking like the pic of the cake i posted above, I remember it a little differently. But I guess he was only 4 at the time so his grasp on reality wasn't at its highest point. Luckily while I was at my Grandmothers house this weekend I came across a picture of the infamous Michael Jackson cake.......ENJOY!!!!

Extreme Closet Makeover

Remember how women Ahhhhhhhh'ed in unison as Carie Bradshaw opened the doors to her new closet in the Sex And The City movie, or how we couldn't close our mouths when we saw Mariah Carey's closet (that was the size of 3 apartments) on MTV Cribs? Well more and more celebrities are making their closets into super chic spaces. And although most "regular" women say that the size of the closet is a major factor in choosing a home or apartment we usually never do anything more to them than hang up our clothes. Let us now take a note from our celebrity friends and make our closets into a space that we love no matter what the size. All it takes is a few extra pieces, a little time, and some creativity and viola.....

Here are some of MY tips for Re-Vamping your closet:

1. Add some color- Painting is the easiest way to dramatically change a room. For extra drama stencil on a cool design or hang a super chic wallpaper.

2. Add a chair or ottoman with a contrasting color to the paint or one with a cool print.

3. Instead of settling for builders grade lighting, install a chandelier to give that extra wow factor.

4. Add a fab rug! Animal print anyone!?

5. Color coordinate your clothes and shoes

6. Invest in a Great (and large) floor mirror!

Everyone Wants To Be A "Barbie"

A friend of mine posted an article on facebook talking about the huge following of newest rap vixen Nicki Minaj. Seems that there are girls all over the country that are dressing, acting, and speaking like this Self-proclaimed BARBIE. Although she is cute and super animated she has to get about 100 more jobs (including working at McDonald's, being an astronaut and running for president 3x), 5 cars a Jeep and an RV, not to mention about 8 homes, before she can even consider giving the real Barbie a run for her money. Speaking of which Mattel revealed the famous ultimate California blonds Malibu Dream House for Barbie's 50th birthday. The 3,500 square foot (human scale) house in Malibu was designed by interior designer Jonathan Adler The house is not open to the public, but Adler will be taking some of the signature designs from the house and making a Barbie suite at The Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. The room will be viewable by the public and also can be rented for parties...Maybe Nicki can rent it for her video :) ~~~~Check out these photos of Barbie's Malibu dream house!!!

Welcome to my interior design blog. I'm so excited that I am finally putting it together after talking about it for so long!!!

My goal is to enlighten everyone, but mostly I want to inspire the urban community to make their homes a real place of enjoyment, relaxation, and place that tells your story, especially some of my friends in the entertainment industry who put so much into cars and jewelry, but are clueless when it comes to their homes.

Hopefully I will have more than just my mom and best friend reading this, as they are required to do so daily by law, and YOU will get some useful information from my thoughts and tips and will continue to come back.

DO WHAT YOU LOVE

I finally figured it out!!... well kinda. After 8 long years in the music industry I was presented with an unexpected and very unwanted break when the company that I worked so hard for just fell apart. NOW WHAT? After a few long months of sitting, waiting, and trying to find a new music home I found that although I enjoyed my previous career in the industry, it wasn't what I loved. It all hit me as I was sitting at home clearing out some of my old magazines and I realized that I'd never subscribed to Vibe, Source, Billboard, or XXL. I did read them on occasion, but it was usually work related or to get a little bit of gossip. I did however have subscriptions to Domino (R.I.P), BHG, House Beautiful, and Elle Decor, just to name a few, that I couldn't wait to pull out of the mailbox each month. This was it!! This is what I'm supposed to be doing! I knew that I had always liked interior design, but always looked at it as a hobby. Now was the time to do what made me the happiest and finally put my art degree from GSU to use (See Mom, I didn't waste all that money after all!). Right then and there I decided to go back to school and get more formal training in interior design/decorating so I scraped up every dollar I had (even borrowed some) and enrolled in Georgia Perimeter College's continuing education program which I completed in August 09. What started out as a pretty bad time in my life turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened. If I hadn't lost that job, I would have never gone back to school and I wouldn't have had the courage to try to start my own company doing something that I love.

I'll have to admit it was scary to start fresh and to be on my own but its sooooooo worth it :)
